Desertification and development: Some broader contexts

چکیده
The dominant direct physical processes responsible for desertification are water erosion, wind erosion and salinization. Other threats that degrade the soil include loss of biodiversity, organic matter, fire, changing resources, compaction, sealing contamination. Soil management inevitably combines human effects. Climate, which is most important driver systems, now being rapidly modified by action, at a scale much coarser than any local remedial action. In model near-subsistence productivity limited climate available labour, with some options additional inputs through improved seed, fertilizer or tillage equipment. Optimum solutions in particular environment depend on both access to markets. Agricultural surpluses, if any, allow investment infrastructure – it directly supporting agriculture irrigation market less useful through, example, warfare pyramid building. Today traditional drivers desertification, based subsistence grazing, may have become relevant, as land, particularly global South, developed intensive irrigated farming, populations move into mega-cities. around cities transfers urban water. semi-arid areas this will lead competition best land expansion agricultural potential. Desertification then becomes an issue increasingly focussed abandoned marginal maintaining managing regional resources controlling face change.

About 80 percent of Iran is arid and semi-arid and about 35 percent of this area is susceptible to desertification hazard. Therefore desertification assessment and identification of the most important criteria for the assessment of risk and a basis for development of management plans is essential. This research was conducted in the semi-arid region of Agh-Band in the Golestan province, Iran wit...

Rapid urban development in recent decades, has affected various aspects of social, economic, cultural, political and human environment. Negative environmental effects of urban growth have increased to such extent that is the largest threat in front of the ecosystem. One of the consequences of these negative environmental effects is ecological and biological capacitance reduction, also referred ...
